Hey, what good is a blog if you can't give free plugs to your friends? If you're reading this in Tucson today, you have a chance to see the great Roy Zimmerman tonight, performing his "funny songs about ignorance, war and greed." Roy's songs are so hilarious you need to bring surgical gauze to repair the lateral abdominal damage after laughing so hard. And if that doesn't entice you, I don't know what will.
If you're reading this in Point Richmond, Great Barrington, Alexandria or New York City, you have a chance to see Roy in the coming weeks. And if you're reading this blog at some indeterminate point in the future, just go check his touring schedule to see if he's coming to a town near you.
I've known Roy since 1971, and I can tell you this: he was a lot younger then.
UPDATE: Roy's songs have always been great, but I have to say that his newest material has reached a new level of balancing humor with poignancy. Many of the new songs were very moving as well as amusing. Last night he debuted a brand new song, finished just before the gig, in response to the tragedy here in Tucson. He's on his way to make a YouTube video of it right now. You should be able to find it soon on Roy's YouTube channel. So do so!
